Managing FMLA through Extended Absence Framework

Description: The State of Tennessee implemented a FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) solution using the extended absence framework inside of PeopleSoft. The goal was to implement as close to vanilla as possible, but also meet the business requirements for a small team within a department charged with managing the FMLA process for more than 40,000 employees. This solution had to be heavy on efficiency with simplified workflow and no duplication of effort. The business owner wanted to focus on automation, while keeping a personal touch with employees. The solution covers everything from the employee initiating the request for FMLA, tracking through the review/approval process, managing the time sheet, and also allowing for custom email and letter generations. To top it off, a robust administrative portal was developed to empower FMLA coordinators to see approaching deadlines on their automated ‘to-do’ list by using a custom fluid pivot grid combined with an activity guide to bring it all together.
